Goodyear – Huhtamaki North America, part of the Huhtamaki Group in Espoo, Finland, has completed the purchase of an industrial facility in Goodyear that will be used as a manufacturing and distribution center with 300 workers. The acquisition includes a 752,825-square-foot building on a roughly 90-acre parcel located north of Route 85 at 4320 S. Cotton Lane. Maricopa County records show Huhtamaki Inc. paid $42.85 million ($56.92 per foot) to buy the property in a cash transaction. Huhtamaki, which manufactures consumer goods packaging and products used in the food service industry, plans to invest more than $100 million in the West Valley facility. Huhtamaki, with 73 manufacturing plants and 23 sales offices in 34 countries, will produce paper drink cups, insulated hot cups, food containers, pressed paperboard plates and plastic cups and lids from the operation in Goodyear. The property, which is rail-served by the Union Pacific Railroad, will serve foodservice packaging and retail tableware markets on the West Coast. Huhtamaki will start using the facility as a distribution center in early 2017, and anticipates commercial production commencing in late 2017. The building, constructed in 1986, is 20 percent occupied by Schoeller Allibert. The Netherlands-based packaging company is expected to remain as a tenant. The remaining 66 acres, still owned by Cohen Asset Management, is targeted for just under 1 million sq. ft. of industrial space in two buildings. Those parcels, which are 46.73 acres and 19.3 acres, are being marketed by the CBRE agents as Cotton Lane Commerce Park. The company is looking for more industrial investments in the Phoenix area.
