Downtown Scottsdale live music and entertainment venue Martini Ranch announced today it will close after 19 years.
The venue and nightclub has hosted some of the best-known musical acts of the past two decades, but will close Oct. 13, its owners announced in an email newsletter today.
Martini Ranch is owned by Scottsdale-based Square One Concepts, which also owns Arcadia Tavern, Pacific Beach Shore Club and Cold Beer and Cheeseburgers.Barrett Rinzler is the company’s president and CEO, according to the company’s registration with the Arizona Corporation Commission.
Martini Ranch started as a neighborhood bar and grill when it opened in October 1994. It quickly morphed into a full-fledged concert venue. Over the years, recording artists such as Bruno Mars, Kid Rock, Sugar Ray, Grace Potter, Avril Lavigne, Train, Garbage, LMFAO and Switchfoot have played at the venue, affectionately known as the Ranch.
During the past 19 years, Martini Ranch accumulated numerous awards from a variety of local publications such as “Best Live Music Club,” “Best Dance Floor” and “Best Place to See Local Music,” according to the newsletter.
However, the venue has not been without controversy in the past year.
Former Arizona State University football player Tyrice Thompson, who was just 27, died in January after he was stabbed during an altercation with a customer at Martini Ranch. The 26-year-old man accused of the stabbing was arrested and charged.
A 34-year-old man was also stabbed multiple times in June outside the bar. Although his injuries were considered life threatening, he was released from the hospital in July.
Along with Martini Ranch closing, its “club within a club” concept, called the Shaker Room, will also cease operations. Created in 2000, the Shaker Room was an intimate, upscale lounge that catered to industry VIPs.
In addition to becoming an iconic music venue, the Ranch played a role in creating some of the first Scottsdale block parties for holidays such as St. Patrick’s Day, Memorial Day, Labor Day, Halloween and New Year’s Eve, the newsletter noted.
In the newsletter, Ranch owners thanked its fans and supporters.
“We thank each and every one of you for helping make Martini Ranch what it is today,” the newsletter read. “It has been a marvelous experience and a great pleasure to have been a part of your lives.”
