The U.S. may be seeing a declining trend in golf, but Arizona continues to be a bright spot in the nation, even if its jobs, courses and revenue aren’t seeing the kind of growth from years past.

According to data compiled by American City Business Journals, the golf industry throughout the U.S. saw a 23% decline in the number of courses between 2007 and 2016, a 3% drop in the number of employees and a 13% decline in revenue.

Arizona — and specifically Maricopa County — are helping to prop up those numbers, according to the data. During the same 2007 to 2016 time frame, the number of courses in Arizona shrank by 2 percent to 228. Despite a few less courses, however, employment was up by 5% to 12,401 jobs, and revenue was up 12% to $286 million.
