The popular Scottsdale restaurant will be part of a new hotel project.
The Scottsdale City Council gave the stamp of approval to redevelopment plans of the former Don & Charlie’s restaurant in Old Town, which will be razed and developed into a hotel.
“Right now it’s a 10,000-square-foot restaurant, and we plan to develop it into a 181-room hotel.”
The company has not yet decided the branding for the hotel, but Kent said it will be a high-end lifestyle hotel.
The hotel will include a 4,000-square-foot restaurant, which, according to documents submitted to the city, may celebrate the legacy of Don & Charlie’s. Plans submitted to the city said the group continues to work on an effort to locate an updated Don & Charlie’s within the hotel. The hotel also will include meeting space and other amenities, plus an 8,000-square-foot “amenity deck” that will have a pool, food and drink service, lounge areas and other features.
Plans call for the hotel to reach six stories, with a maximum height of 75 feet on 1.44 acres at the southeast corner of 75th Street and Camelback Road. The project is estimated to cost about $50 million, and construction is planned to begin in spring 2019, with completion planned for early 2020.News of Don & Charlie’s closure to make way for the hotel broke in February. The restaurant has been a popular spot for spring training ballplayers and fans.
