So what is the most popular job in Arizona? We figured it had to be something related to real estate and construction, since the state’s economy has long been centered around growth and development.
It turns out Arizona has more plasterers per capita than any other state, according toBusiness Insider’s analysis of occupation data.
The tradesmen make $37,000 per year on average, but can top out at $68,000, according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics. It shouldn’t be a surprise considering the size of the construction industry in the state and the fact most new homes are made of stucco.
Business Insider identified the most popular job in each state based on the preponderance of people in those positions compared with other U.S. states.
Some were more obvious than others. Nevada had the most casino workers, Washington the most aircraft assemblers, Oregon the most loggers, Texas the most petroleum engineers and New York the most fashion designers.
Others were more surprising. Farm workers took the prize in California instead of actors or techies. Physicists were most popular in New Mexico, paralegals in Virginia and sailors were tops in Louisiana.
