  1. Arizona’s strong economic momentum continues with the news that the Phoenix metropolitan area ranked #1 in the nation for new jobs created over the last year, according to new data from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics.
  2. Airobotics, a tech company headquartered in Scottsdale, earned the World Economic Forum’s Technology Pioneer award this week for its work in developing data-driven automated drones.
  3. Two of Arizona’s most innovative organizations are joining forces. Science Foundation Arizona will locate at ASU SkySong and now be known as SFAz@ASU. An advisory council of researchers from ASU, NAU and UA will identify areas of collaboration, with initial projects in health and cybersecurity.
  4. Google will invest $1 billion in a data center in Mesa, adding to a growing number of companies along the Elliott Road Tech Corridor.
  5. Waymo and the City of Chandler have announced a pilot rideshare project. City staff will use automated Waymo vehicles to evaluate whether it cuts fleet maintenance costs and enhances employee productivity.

NEW FUNDING OPPORTUNITIES FOR TBED

DEPARTMENT OF HEALTH AND HUMAN SERVICES (INCLUDING NATIONAL INSTITUTES OF HEALTH AND CENTERS FOR DISEASE CONTROL AND PREVENTION)

The National Institutes of Health (NIH) invites K12 applications for the NINDS Child Neurologist Career Development Program (CNCDP)to facilitate and support the research career development of child neurologists who have made a commitment to independent research careers. An award of up to $3,400,000 may be made. Eligibility is unrestricted domestically. Applications due Sept. 10 and Letters of Intent (LOI) due 30 days prior to application deadline.

The Administration for Children and Families (ACF) invites applications for its Community Economic Development Focus on Social Enterprises program funds. Awards are for well planned, financially viable, and innovative projects sponsoring social enterprise incubators. Up to six awards of up to $400,000 may be made. Eligibility is restricted to nonprofit Community Development Centers (CDCs), other than institutions of higher education. Applications due July 29.

DEPARTMENT OF STATE

The U.S. Mission to India invites applications for its Empowering Economies through Innovation: Building Capacity for Indo-U.S. Joint Research project which will support one major national conference on successfully implementing U.S.-Indian international research collaborations. One award of up to $70,000 may be made. Eligibility is restricted to public and private institutions of higher education and nonprofit organizations. Applications due July 31.

KRESGE FOUNDATION

The Kresge Foundation invites applications for its Boosting Opportunities for Social and Economic Mobility for Families (BOOST) program to strengthen urban higher education ecosystems and work across teams to accelerate social and economic mobility using a racial equity lens. Up to eight awards of up to $450,000 each may be made to support partnerships between community colleges and human services nonprofits. To be eligible, partnerships must include at least one community college and at least one nonprofit human services organization working to advance the social and economic mobility of its clients using a two-generation, whole-family approach. In addition, the community college partner must be a member of the Achieving the Dream Network. Applications due July 26.
