UPS Supply Chain Solutions will add 400 jobs to the West Valley with its second Goodyear facility, the city announced Friday.

The facility, called The Hub at Goodyear, is located in an industrial area close to Interstate 10 and the Phoenix Goodyear Airport at 305 S. Bullard Ave and is the second facility UPS will operate in Goodyear.

The company also announced plans to hire 800 seasonal workers at its existing UPS small package delivery facility at 16510 W. Indian School Road in Goodyear.

Goodyear Mayor Georgia Lord said in a statement she is pleased UPS believes in Goodyear as it expands operations in the city and creates new full time and seasonal jobs for residents.

“New jobs benefit us in so many ways as our city grows, bringing more resources and businesses that our community desires,” Lord said in a statement.

UPS signed the new 600,000-square-foot lease at The Hub at Goodyear in July, according to CBRE Group Inc., which represented the landlord, New York-based Mack Real Estate Group in the deal. That’s the majority of the 800,000-square-foot facility.

The Hub at Goodyear was developed by LGE Design Build and Clarius Partners and was completed in 2020, according to CBRE.

Patrick Feeney, executive vice president with CBRE in Phoenix, said UPS was looking at locating its next facility in Nevada, California or Phoenix before choosing the Goodyear site. CBRE started talking to UPS in May, and the company’s “drop dead” date for moving into the space was Aug. 15.

While UPS leased the space, the facility will be used as a return center for Target.

“The goal was to get into a building as soon as possible,” Feeney said. “They had obligated to Target that ‘We will have a building to where … returned goods can be shipped to this building.”

Feeney said the area where The Hub is located is “very popular” due to the proximity to the freeways and amenities. “It’s a real easy park to get in and out,” he said.

The facility had speculative office space with restrooms under construction in May, but after teaming with the current owner of the site, Mack Real Estate Group, and the city, Feeney said they were able to “fast track” lighting and electrical distribution to be completed prior to Aug. 15 so UPS could occupy the facility and begin receiving returned goods.

“The remainder of the tenant improvements are going to be done while they’re in the building,” Feeney said.

About 200,000 square feet of The Hub is still available for lease. Feeney said a potential tenant is currently looking to lease that space.

The UPS jobs include health care benefits, retirement contributions and tuition assistance. Hourly starting pay is up to $18.50 depending on shift and position and includes annual raises, the city said.

Positions and pay include:

  • Warehouse Associate $17.30-$21.05
  • Seasonal Package Handlers $15-$18/HR
  • Seasonal Drivers: $21/HR
  • PT Seasonal Supervisors: $19 – $20/HR
  • Seasonal Personal Vehicle Drivers: $21/HR
  • Seasonal Driver Helpers: $15/HR
