Fans of Canadian poutine, rejoice. US Fries , which specializes in traditional poutine with an American twist, opened its second location this weekend — this one in Tempe, at 414 S. Mill Ave.

“People are sick of the same old, same old,” said Thomas Jones, president of US Fries and a native of Calgary, Alberta. “What we’ve done is create something really unique — and the people don’t like it, they love it.”

Poutine is a comfort food made of French fries, cheese curds, and brown gravy. US Fries coined the term “American poutine,” topping the Canadian dish with everything from pulled pork and roast beef to chili and cheese, according to an announcement by the restaurant chain.

Poutine is so popular that McDonald’s and a number of other fast-food chains have it on their menu nationwide, the US Fries website says.

The fast-casual eatery, which opened Aug. 5, offers a variety of other menu items such as burgers, deep-fried cheese curds, a pulled pork sandwich, salads and desserts.

US Fries opened its first Arizona location in Tucson in 2014, reports KTAR-FM 92.3. Regular hours of operation will be 11 a.m. to 10 p.m, Sunday through Wednesday, and 11 a.m. through 4 a.m. Thursday through Saturday
