A 19.2-acre development in north Phoenix got the stamp of approval from the Phoenix City Council this week, which voted to rezone vacant land to open the area up for development.
Plans submitted to the city by landowner Robert Eaton Jr. include a two-story sports arena and a four-story hotel.
The parcel, at 32000 N. 28th Ave., was previously zoned for a planned community district, but no master developer signed on to install infrastructure, which was the goal when the city originally designated the zoning, according to city records.
As part of the development, Eaton and the development team will be required to maintain the pedestrian connection, known as the Paseo del Prado, and portions of the pedestrian walkway will be required to be shaded by either a structure or by landscaping, city documents show.
